Ch. 6 (pp. 167-186), "O genocídio como crime contra a humanidade", reflects upon the phenomenon of genocide, discussing the case of Arendt's work on the Eichmann trial. Suggests that traditional categories, such as logic of reason, on which the trial was based, were insufficient to face the non-reasonability of the crime of genocide. States that the crime committed by Eichmann is a crime against mankind, according to Arendt's formulations, which are drawn from Kant's thesis of "universal hospitality". Concludes that the criteria of Arendt, based on typification of crime and not on the sufferings of the victims, agrees with Jewish tradition, which asserts the unity of mankind and therefore offers compatible arguments for its typification.
